Abstract: | A survey of ectoparasites of horses was undertaken at stables in Lagos, Ibadan and Ilorin, Nigeria, during the rainy season from May to September 1981. The arthropods collected were Diptera such as species of Stomoxys, Tabanus, Glossina, Hippobosca and Musca, as well as some myiasis-causing species, ticks in the genera Boophilus, Hyalomma and Rhipicephalus and the lice Haematopinus equi [H. macrocephalus] and Damalinia equi [Werneckiella equi]. The activity of flies was greatest between 07.00-11.30 and 17.00-18.30 h. |
