Abstract:

In this study of the Tabanidae of the USSR, accounts are given of their structure, phylogeny, classification, geographical distribution, biology and economic and veterinary significance. Methods of collecting Tabanidae in all stages are discussed, and measures of control are summarised. In the systematic part of the work, keys are given to the subfamilies and genera (13) found in the USSR, and to the species of these genera. The species are described and figured, and the distribution of each is shown on a map and also listed.
