| Abstract: | Extensive collections and field studies on Tabanidae were carried out in Idaho in 1973-74 by means of Manitoba fly traps. This account of the results contains sections on previous work, the economic importance of tabanids, sampling methods, the study area, and general biology, and keys to the subfamilies, tribes and genera of Idaho tabanids. Some 80 species and subspecies are listed as either present in Idaho or expected to occur there, 43 species being new records for that state; notes are given on the distinctive morphological features, geographic distribution, distribution in Idaho (if previously recorded there), seasonal occurrence and biology of each. Distribution maps are provided. |
