Abstract:

This first part of a series, in which J. W. Meigen’s coloured illustrations of all the European Diptera known to him or described by him will be published in facsimile, comprises the first 80 of a total of 305 plates, together with the original author’s handwritten index and keys to all the plates. The species illustrated in this part include the culicids, chironomids, ceratopogonids and tabanids.
