| Abstract: | Tabanids were collected on 8 farms in southern New Jersey in 1973 on pigs and in black box traps. Twenty-six species were recorded, 19 of them on the pigs. Tabanus lineola F. was the most abundant, followed by T. nigrovittatus Macq. Pigs in wooded areas were subject to heavier attacks than those in open fields by both tabanids and Stomoxys calcitrans (L.). S. calcitrans, Haematobia irritans (L.) and 13 species of tabanids were observed on horses, 2 of tabanids on goats and 6 on dogs. |
