| Abstract: | Descriptions are given of further modifications of the animal trap and the Manitoba trap as initially modified by Thompson [RAE/B 57, 721]. The new alterations are designed to simplify the construction of the traps, reduce maintenance and increase resistance to the effects of wind, heat, moisture, and light, which cause intense weathering under the conditions prevailing in Texas coastal marshes. Trap anchorage was improved, removal of catch was facilitated and stronger materials were used. Preliminary results with the modified animal trap indicated that Tabanus acutus (Big.) and three species closely related to T. quinquevittatus Wied. (T. mularis Stone, T. nigrovittatus Macq. and T. texanus Hine) were specifically selected. |
