Tabanidae (Diptera) of Texas. III. Post oak belt species, Navasota River watershed; incidence, frequency, abundance and seasonal distribution

Abstract:

Collections of Tabanids were made weekly from March to September 1971 with 16 Manitoba traps at 11 different sites in or near pasture, impoundments, creeks or river bottoms of the Navasota River watershed in the post oak belt (dominated by Quercus stellata) in east central Texas [cf. two preceding abstracts]. Some catches were also made in an animal trap and some with an aerial net at sites where Chrysops were observed. Tabanus fuscicostatus Hine made up 26% of the catch, T. trimaculatus P. de B. 14%, C. callidus O.-S. 12%, T. subsimilis Bellardi 12%, C. pikei Whitney 6% and T. sulcifrons Macq. 6%.
