| Abstract: | Tabanus nigrovittatus Macq. breeds in salt-marshes on the coast of Massachusetts, where it is a nuisance to residents and visitors. A simple trap for the fly is described. It consists of a 2-ft cubical box, standing on legs 2 ft long, with a removable gauze top and a base formed from two upwards-sloping gauze panels that approach each other so as to leave a slit 0.25 in. wide. As many as 55 000 flies have been caught in one such trap in a period of four weeks. Ten million flies are estimated to have been caught in the 600 traps used during the 1971 season. |
