Abstract:

This work treats the nepalesisehe material of the brakes (Tabanidae), which by the Nepal expeditions 1902 and 1904 were collected. The material is kept in the zoo-logical collection of the Bavarian state in Munchen. In the year 1962 the Mr. G. Ebert and H. Falkner collected in highest of the visited area (Khumbugebiet). A second Entomologen group collected 1964, even in lower situations. The material was bring along by Dr. W. Dierl, some copies were particularly captured also by Dr. H. Loeffler. A specification of the visited discovery sites published DIERL (1966). The insect fauna of Nepal is very interesting and different. In this area palaearktische as well as eastern kinds are en step. In the higher and cooler of Nepal the kinds more palaearktischer (e.g. the Hybomitra outweigh – kinds), in lower situations against it the warm-loving kinds of eastern origin (e.g. the Philoliche kinds), which penetrate from central India to Nepal. In Nepal the Tabanidenfauna is very incompletely well-known. To the most important publications over it the working on of RICARDO(1909 1917), SENIOR WHITE belong (1922, 1927) as well as Philip (1959-1963). The knowledge of other Dipteren groups is similar unsatisfactory. This fact proves best the series of work in the writing series of "Diptera from to Nepal", which in the magazine bulletin. Brit. mash (Nat. Hiat.) Ent. appeared. In the years 1964-1966 altogether 23 Dipterenfamilien were worked on. The majority of the determined kinds as new were described. It predominantly concerns the material, which was collected by the British expeditions in Nepal in the years 1954 and l961-1962. The brakes not worked on in this writing lines up, because in the material from the years 1961 -1962 only one kind (Philoliche longirostris HARDW.) is represented (OLDROYD in suffered, 23. 2. 1966).Philoliche longirostris (Hardwicke 1823)A large kind, body length about 20 mm, with a very long trunk, which is about 3 time longer than the body length. The 3. Feeler member black, Mesonotum without clear longitudinal lines, abdomens with rust-brown side marks on the 1, -3. (or to 6.) Tergit, the including-black center strip of the Abdomenrueekens takes for instance a third or a more the Rueekenbreite. The first two Tarsalglieder of the vorderbeine with both sexes above with clear extensions. P. longirostris (Hardw.) easily trunk differs from the other Indian kinds of this kind by that much is enough. The relationship from body length to trunk length is 1: 2,7 -3.2 (body length including the head to the trunk length with 7 copies in mm: - 20: 64, 19: 53, 20: 64, 20: 63; – 20: 64, 19: 63, 19,5: 55). The extended and predominantly grey-yellow dusted face (fig. 1) is furthermore characteristic. RICARDO(1911:367) also from the Himalaya area ssp. the varipies described; from the Nominatform differs it by simple Vordertarsen without extensions, by reddish 3. Feeler member, shining reddish-brown Untergesicht and widened yellow Abdominalzeichnung, so that the dark center strips only in shape of black central marks at the 1. – 3. Tergit is represented. Form of the face and trunk length similarly as with the Nominatform. All 8 copies, which to me at the disposal are, correspond the Nominatform. P. longirostris described HARDWICKE 1823 from Nepal. Later this kind was determined also in Tibet and in northeast Gebienten India (Sikkim, Aasam).Philoliche haroldi sp. n.A medium sized kind with a shining black, extended face, trunk long, nearly 1,5 times longer than the body length, the 3. Feeler member rust-brown, foretarsi simple and abdomen with rust-brown side marks at the first three tergites.Female: Stirnstrieme black-grey, briefly black behaart, to the vertex diminishes clearly. Back of the head and cheeks more grey with long gold-yellowish hair, Untergesicht extend forward, shining black, only at the sides weakly brownishly. Vertex with suggested shining brown Ozellenhoecker. The first two feeler members dark-brown colored and grey dusted with long, black villi, the 1. Member extended, a little longer than broad, in the apical part widens; 2. Member briefly, more broadly than long. The 3. Member in-colored rust-brown. Tracer dark-brown, long and slim, the basal member with a number of long black villi at the lower surface, tracer stop long and spitzig, only briefly and meagerly black behaart. Trunk long and slim, completely black, etva 1.4 – 1.5 times longer than the body length including the head. It differs from the again-described kind by the longer trunk, the more taken off face, which is predominantly yellowish grayly dusted (at the shining black face three clear longitudinal lines of dusting are present), by the nearly black 3. Feeler member and by larger body length (about 20 mm). Mr. H. Oldroyd compared this new kind also with the types of the Philoliche longirostris var. varipes Ricardo, 1911. This form has some common characteristics with P. haroldi frame n. (the brownish 3. Feeler member, simple front tarsen), they differs however clearly by the more taken off face, which as with the kind P. is longirostris.Philoliche of taprobanes (Walker 1854) differs from other related Indian kinds of this kind by the light-grey Mesonotum with three remarkable, black-brown longitudinal lines, by shorter face with meager, grey dusting and relatively shorter trunk (relationship body length to trunk length: 1: 0.6).From central India (Bombay) the Philoliche rufa (Mac 1850) was described. Ricardo considered this kind probably identical to P. taprobanes. The only specimen from Bombay was determined by H. Oldroyd as P. rufa and also examined by me, has relatively just as extended face, as P. haroldi. The face is however clearly lower (fig. 4) and in its center section moderately grey dusts. Feeler completely, including the basal members, yellowish-brown, the trunk is shorter, the body length to the trunk length amounts to 1: 1.1. The thorax colouring is in-colored yellowish grey, and the whole abdomen is yellow to rust brown, only to tergites 2-4 with a dark central mark at the front edge, and the last three tergites are black grey at the front edge.Philoliche macquartiana nom. nov.The above-mentioned kind P. rufa became from Macquart (1850: 18) from India as Pangonia rufa described. This name is however a homonym of Pangonia rufa Macquart 1938, which was described from Peru (South America) (Macquart 1838: 106). For this reason I suggest Mac 1850 the name Philoliche for the Indian kind Panfonia rufa macquartiana nom. Nov.All four kinds of the kind Philoliche Wied., which admits from India is, differ by the form of the face from each other. With P. tabrobanes is the face (fig. 3), with P. longirostris longest (fig. 1), thus is connected most briefly also the trunk length:KindRelationship of the body length including the head to the trunk lengthP. taprobanes1:0.6P. macquartiana nom. nov.1:1.1P. haroldi sp. n.1:1.4-1.5P. longirostris1:2.7-3.2
