Effect of 1-octen-3-ol in field trapping Aedes spp. (Dipt., Culicidae) and Hybomitra spp. (Dipt., Tabanidae) in subarctic Norway

Abstract:

{ A field test with 1-octen-3-ol (octenol) used as an attractant in flight traps was carried out in subarctic Norway (69°40’N, 23°30’E) during 4 warm days in July 1993. Aedes spp. (including A. communis, A. pionips and A. punctor) were caught in significantly (P = 0.0001) higher numbers in octenol-baited traps than in empty control traps (_7-fold increase), as was Hybomitra lundbecki (P = 0.0003) (_9-fold increase). Octenol also increased but not significantly (P = 0.09
