Abstract:

Based on the literature, a checklist of 418 tabanid species or subspecies for China is provided. 52 have been treated as misidentifications or synonyms and 13 species are thought doubtful. The specimens of 40 species were not checked, as they are not deposited in China. 194 species are Palaearctic, 204 Oriental and the remainder interregional. The numbers of species for each of the 7 zoogeographical districts (4 Palaearctic and 3 Oriental) of China are given.
