Abstract:

This guide to the Tabanidae of Canada and Alaska contains introductory sections on life history, geographical distribution, methods of collecting and preserving, adult morphology, and classification. A key to subfamilies (Pangoniinae, Chrysopsinae and Tabaninae) and genera follows. Keys are given to the species in the genera Apatolestes, Stonemyia, Chrysops, Haematopota, Hybomitra, Atylotus and Tabanus. All keys are given in both English and French, although the text is in English only. After the keys are descriptions of the genera (which also include Goniops, Merycomyia and Silvius) and species, and maps showing distribution within Canada and Alaska. Also included are a glossary, bibliography and index.
