| Abstract: | The biting cycle of the horse flies of French Guiana is bimodal. Cryptotylus unicolor, Chlorotabanus mexicanus and Chlorotabanus inanis are biting at dawn and at dusk only. Other species are more active during mid-morning and late afternoon. The noxious species are more abundant during the dry season (August-November) with an annual peak in November. The logarithm of horse fly abundance in November is inversely proportional to the rainfall of August and September. |
