| Abstract: | Bembix sp. and Tachytes sp. (Hymenoptera : Sphecidae) swoop down, capture and take away Tabanus partitus (Diptera : Tabanidae) from the udder, testicles and other body parts of buffaloes and blackish-brown or black-coloured cows on way to their pasture in Darjeeling District, West Bengal. Thus captured the Tabanids are taken to the underground burrows of the Hymenopteran captors and laid down in stacks within the gallaries in the chambers in the burrows in paralysed state as food for the developing larvae of the captors. In nature, the Tabanids are thus decimated in large numbers and this may be taken as the Nature’s way of controlling the population of the Tabanids. |
