| Abstract: | Tabanid larvae belonging to the genus Tabanus collected from Nigeria were classified into 14 morphologically different types based on the characteristics of the anal segment. Seven of these types proved to correspond to already known species: T. lubutuensis, T. besti, T. triquetrornatus, T. taeniola, T. biguttatus, T. gratus and T. argenteus. The anal segment of the larvae of 6 species, except T. argenteus, is described and illustrated. This is the first report on the use of morphological characteristics for identification of larvae of Tabanus species from Nigeria. |
