| Abstract: | A procedure was developed in field studies in Oklahoma to estimate the total number of Tabanidae feeding on an animal at a given time on the basis of numbers of the species Tabanus abactor, T. mularis and T. subsimilis feeding on the legs and number of either T. equalis or T. sulcifrons feeding on the backs of cattle. An independent data analysis showed no significant difference between the actual number of flies on an animal and the number estimated using this procedure. |
