| Abstract: | Ten insecticide formulations, including 5 pyrethroids or mixtures of pyrethroids in ear tags, were tested against field populations of Tabanus abactor on cattle in Oklahoma. The most effective insecticide was a pour-on formulation of 1.0% permethrin, which caused more than 55% mortality of exposed flies for 2 weeks after treatment. The 10% permethrin ear tags caused 79 and 55% mortality of the fly 2 and 3 weeks, respectively, after treatment. None of the other treatments, including ear tags containing fenvalerate, flucythrinate or cypermethrin, caused more than 36% mortality during any treatment period. None of the insecticides prevented T. abactor from biting and taking a blood-meal. |
