| Abstract: | Tabanus importunus, T. occidentalis var. dorsovittatus, T. wilkersoni, Cryptotylus unicolor and Phaeotabanus cajennensis were the most abundant or the most noxious tabanids captured in studies conducted in French Guiana using traps baited with carbon dioxide. The tabanids caused considerable distress to cattle. Their importance as vectors of Trypanosoma vivax viennei and the agents of infectious anaemia and bovine anaplasmosis is discussed. Other observations on the biology of tabanids are given. |
