| Abstract: | During studies in the extreme north of the European part of the USSR and in Siberia in 1963-81, 17 species of tabanids belonging to 3 genera were taken on domesticated deer in pasture or on man. Species characteristic of the tundra and taiga predominated. Attacks on deer by the females were studied in relation to seasonal and daily activity, temperature, relative humidity, light and wind velocity. The possible role of tabanids in the transmission of pathogens is mentioned. |
