| Abstract: | The abundance and seasonal distribution of tabanids were studied in 2 areas of the forest-tundra of Quebec along the eastern shore of Hudson Bay. Seven species of Chrysops and 7 of Hybomitra were collected at Poste-de-la-Baleine, and 3 species of Chrysops and 7 of Hybomitra in the Richmond Gulf area. Six of the species are Holarctic. The dominant species at Poste-de-la Baleine were H. lurida (Fall.) (29.5%), C. furcatus Wlk. (22%), C. excitans Wlk. (18%), H. hearlei (Philip) (11.9%) and H. frontalis (Wlk.) (11%). Those in the Richmond Gulf area were H. frontalis (83.9%) and C. sordidus O. S. (12.2%). H. lurida was the earliest species, being collected a few weeks before the others. |
