Abstract:

The first chapter of this book (pp.4-99) deals with the taxonomy and morphology of Spirurida which use Diptera as intermediate hosts. 46 species belonging to 11 genera and 6 families are described and information is given on their localization, hosts and world distribution. The biology and life cycles of these nematodes are described in Chapter 2 (pp.99-177). Chapter 3 (pp. 177-219) deals with the ecology and species composition of Diptera (Muscidae, Anthomyiidae, Drosophilidae, Tabanidae and Hippoboscidae) that are intermediate hosts of spirurid nematodes. The 4th and last chapter (pp. 219-233) describes the diseases caused by these nematodes in vertebrate hosts. The book is well illustrated and contains many tables and differential keys. There is no index.
