Notes on biology of Hybomitra daeckei (Hine) (Diptera: Tabanidae).

Laboratory and field observations made in New Jersey in 1979-81 on the biology of Hybomitra daeckei (Hine), a tabanid that can be a significant pest of livestock, are described. In a salt marsh, oviposition occurred on Scirpus maritimus and Spartina alterniflora. Egg-masses were also found on Phragmites and Distichlis. Larvae hatching from these eggs were maintained in the laboratory for as long as one year, but there was no pupation. Males hovered over the salt marsh in the morning, usually about 1 h before males of Tabanus nigrovittatus Macq.
