Abstract:

Examination of the type material of Tabanus incisuralis Macq., which is now placed in the genus Atylotus, revealed that, although the type locality is given as "America", the type shows no close relationship to any North American species. Its affinities are apparently with a group of Palaearctic species, and it is quite distinct from the Nearctic species now called A. incisuralis. The first available name for the latter is A. insuetus (O. S.).
