Seasonal and geographical distribution of Tabanus abactor Philip in the Texas Rolling Plains

Trap sampling was carried out in an area covering 3 counties in the Texas Rolling Plains in 1978-79 to determine the seasonal distribution of adults of Tabanus abactor Philip, which is considered to be one of the most damaging livestock pests in the area. Geographical distribution studies were also carried out within the boundaries of the Texas Rolling Plains during the same period. The tabanid was found to be present from mid-June to mid-September in the 3-county area and was found inhabiting 46 of the 62 counties within the defined geographical region. Other tabanid species collected are listed.
