| Abstract: | From a survey in the vicinity of Avetonou in Togo in 1979 and 1980, 14 species of tabanids in the genera Tabanus, Ancala and Atylotus are reported, with notes on their distribution, fluctuations in numbers, biotypes and behaviour. Because tsetse flies [Glossina spp.] are hardly ever seen on the intensive pastures and Trypanosoma vivax infects up to 30% of cattle, it is suggested that tabanids may be highly effective vectors of trypanosomiasis, especially in areas of intensified land use. |
