Abstract:

The larvae and pupae of Hybomitra californica (Marten) and H. sonomensis (O.-S.) from northern California are described for the first time. A detailed morphological comparison of the larvae and pupae of H. sonomensis with those of H. phaenops (O.-S.) (an important pest of livestock from Arizona that is closely related to it) corroborates recent evidence from the morphology of the adults that the 2 forms are distinct species.
