| Abstract: | The distribution and ecology of tabanids, which are suspected of being mechanical vectors of trypanosomes pathogenic to livestock in the Koalib Hills in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, were investigated during a survey of that area. As a result, 5 tabanid species were recorded and identified as Ancala latipes (Macq.), Philoliche magrettii (Bez.), Atylotus agrestis (Wied.), A. fuscipes (Ric.) and Tabanus taeniola P. de B. Notes are given on the adult resting places and seasonal distribution and on the larval and pupal habitats of the last 3 species, which were the commonest throughout the year; the first 2 species were observed only as adult females (especially in August and September). |
